LiTROS TPA technology at China Glass shows how insulating glass producers can simplify spacer processes and grow step by step with reliable, flexible solutions.
Rigid spacers remain a proven and widely used solution in insulating glass production, but their handling often involves multiple upstream steps that add time, space, and manpower – especially for companies starting to industrialize.
Thermoplastic Spacer (TPA) technology offers an alternative or a complementary approach by simplifying spacer application. At China Glass, [LiTROS TPA](https://www.litros.com/en/insulating/lines/litros-ig-line-thermoplastic) showed how this process can be reduced to its essentials: robust, reliable, and well suited as a first step toward software supported, partially automated production.
#### **What TPA changes in the process**
In the TPA process, the spacer is not a rigid component, but a thermoplastic material supplied from barrels and processed directly by the machine. The system applies the spacer continuously along the glass edge, forming a closed spacer frame with no joints or corner connections, except at one defined start/stop point which will be closed with the closing station.
The spacer geometry is defined via the nozzle. Dimensions, spacer width, and unit configuration are taken from the system input and applied consistently from unit to unit.

Fewer upstream steps
Bending, filling, butyl application, and the logistical effort required for rigid spacers are no longer needed. The spacer is applied directly during production.
High flexibility
Different formats and spacer widths can be produced without mechanical changeovers. Mixed batches are easy to handle.

Instead of stocking many spacer types, desiccants, and accessories, TPA works with a small number of material barrels. This saves space and simplifies internal logistics.

Modern TPA materials deliver reliable adhesion and good gas tightness. The seamless spacer application avoids joint points and supports consistent unit quality.
Lower manpower requirements
Fewer manual steps mean operators can focus on inspection and controlled handling instead of spacer preparation.
Scalability
TPA does not require a fully digital environment from day one. The system can be operated with basic input, and more advanced software support can be added later.
#### **Handling in daily production**
TPA units are flexible before curing and therefore require basic care during handling and storage – especially with larger formats. In typical LiTROS entry scenarios, such as windows and doors, this is easy to manage with standard handling routines. No special lifting or storage equipment is required.
